Teaching Opportunities for Undergrads

Undergraduate students have the opportunity to serve as teaching assistants for the General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry Laboratory courses at Columbia, both during the academic year and over the summer. Undergraduate TAs have served alongside graduate students, and have the opportunity both to educate their peers, and to gain experience in teaching. In recognition of the hard work that undergraduate TAs put in, the Department has a dedicated teaching award that goes to the best Undergraduate TAs: The Brian Bent Teaching Award.

In order to qualify as a TA, you must be in at least your third year of studies at Columbia, and must have taken and excelled in the course that you wish to teach. To apply fill out an application form and return it to the Undergraduate Administrative Office in 340 Havemeyer. Each semester, the course instructors select the best candidates from the application pool to fill any open positions.
