Chemical Tools to Map RNA Localization and Decode Biological Function

The spatial organization of cellular RNA is critical for proper biological function. Yet profiling the dynamic localization of RNA within complex systems at high spatiotemporal resolution remains a formidable challenge. In this talk, I will describe our development of a small-molecule toolkit for mapping RNA localization in living cells without the need for genetic manipulation. I will show how these chemical tools illuminate RNA dynamics in response to cellular perturbations and generate testable hypotheses connecting differential RNA localization to functional outcomes, including differences in metastatic potential among cancer cells. Finally, I will introduce new methodologies that streamline the integration of spatial RNA studies into broader functional workflows.
