Tuning the Properties of Superatomic Re₆Se₈ with Surface Modification

Abstract:
Lithium intercalation and liquid exfoliation of 2D Re₆Se₈Cl2 in N-methylformamide (NMF) results in reduced monolayers of the superatomic material in solution that are primed for modification. This method of monolayer preparation results in sheets that can be modified with a number of different groups and with high surface coverage. Utilizing this method, there has been work on exploring how surface modification can be used to tune specific properties of the material. This talk will highlight efforts to cross-link the material by reacting the reduced monolayers with disulfide macrocycles, as well as current efforts to synthesize a variety of those macrocycles in order to impart a variety of interesting properties to the material.
